A Coronado Navy Chief twice retired just signed on for duty as a night Security Guard. People once finished with their job, for life, are finding they can’t live very well on retirement income.
That’s not everybody for certain, 104 year old Lola Bennet didn’t retire from Pennys retail chain until she was 85. Probably the longest employee in the state is Arthur Reed who through rain and snow and sleet of night, keep his mail route running smoothly until last month when he turned 95. That made Arthur the nation’s oldest postal worker, who wasn’t forced out to make room for some young tyke.
Arthur said he just felt it was about time since he hadn’t missed a shift during the past 37 years. He began his Postal Delivery career in 1973. He like most seniors aren’t in the job market entirely for the cash, Arthur had hit the $25-an-hour ceiling a decade ago.
U.S. Post Office employee was Reed’s second career too, he hired on after serving in the Air Force. Born in 1914 Reed said his first job taught him to avoid the two ‘S’s, sugar and salt.
This second-time-around work force entry is apparently not just a San Diego trend, England’s recent job report shows there 40,000 retired Brits went back to work last month.
