San Diego Graduate Becomes 2010 Rising Star

Posted on 02 August 2010 by Alan

Power Lawyers add one to their own list. Newly added to it is J. Toby Noblin of the law firm Olan Law.

Prestigious Olan chose Toby to add to its Southern California firm as a rising star based on professional achievements. Peer nominations and evaluations are combined with third-party research to select the 2.5 percent of attorneys in Southern California designated to the list of Southern California Rising Stars.

Toby says it meant a lot that other attorneys selected him for the honor.

California native Toby graduated cum laude from the University of San Diego with a bachelor of arts in 1996. He earned a juris doctorate from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles in 2000, passing the California Bar exam that same year.

Beginning his career as a defense attorney, Toby’s deep-felt belief that the law should hold corporations accountable for their greed led him to move to the plaintiff bar. He joined Olan Law as a partner in 2007.

Olan represents people from throughout Southern and Central California who have suffered serious personal injuries or the families of those who have suffered a wrongful death due to the negligence or carelessness of others.

Toby also represents those with employment issues, especially in discrimination, sexual harassment, and wrongful termination actions, as well as insurance bad faith cases.

“Each year the MIP Awards put San Diego’s top innovations in the spotlight, achieving recognition for our region. “Over the years the innovative products conceived and developed here in San Diego have resulted in significant contributions to the greater public, in fields ranging from improved communications to new medical treatments to greater security. Our position as an innovation leader is critical for our economy in terms of attracting research grants, investment capital, talented scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs.”

To be eligible for the 2010 MIP Awards, the product must be first introduced during the period of September 2009 to September 2010 and have generated revenue from sales.

Each year more than 100 companies enter the competition. Companies of all sizes and sectors have participated, including previous winners: Qualcomm, Entropic Communications, Pfizer, Senomyx, Biomatrica, Photometria, AIRSIS, Naviscan, Gen-Probe, SAIC, Awarepoint Corporation, WD-40, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Firewire Surfboards and ecoATM.

In addition to awards for innovation, the MIP ceremony includes the CONNECT Distinguished Contribution Awards honoring individuals in Technology and Life Sciences and the William W. Otterson Award, recognizing San Diego developed technologies or products that have “changed the world.”

Winners will be announced on December 10th during a luncheon program at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines. The event includes displays by many of the finalists. Over 800 of San Diego’s business leaders, service providers, venture capitalists and researchers attend the event each year.
